Committees & Working Groups

CFRU works with a hand full of committee's to support various areas of its operations based on its Bylaws, Collective Agreement and Board of Directors.  Below is a list of committee's and their members as per the latest update of this page.

If you are a volunteer and wish to join a committee, talk to the committee chair, or the station manager (info@cfru.ca) for more information.  Some committee's may not be accessible to Volunteers and/or Staff, based on the needs of the Board. 

All Committee chairs are to make sure minutes of past meetings, as well as notification of the next meeting are posted on this page within 7 days of the announcement.

Finance

Maintains the financial security of the station, Looking for a new auditor and setting the budget for the next year.  Heavy work load early in the year.  Finance background not necessary but preferred. Meets approximately 6 times a year, mostly in Jan-June.  Treasurer Mandatory.

Joint Health and Safety

Looks into any issued within the station, monthly walk-through to check for issues in the station. Address staff or volunteer concerns.  Supposed to meet monthly as per Collective Agreement.

Policy

Receives or helps to draft new policy, addresses potential concerns before the board puts new policy into place.  Frequent meetings, Monthly or Bi-weekly with focus on design and discussion.

Programming

Listens to new show proposals and helps to address any issues on-air with regards to shows in a committee format.  Frequent meetings with focus on review and appraisal.

Executive Committee which looks after the Manager’s work. (No Volunteers, No Staff, Committee is the Executive Board Members. Mandatory)

(Employment) Equity

Meets to address new hires before a posting is made to make sure the process is followed and the spirit of our bylaws and Collective Agreement is upheld.  Proposed change to look at Equity in general in the station, not just employment (Communication with Union required)

Hiring (Ad-Hoc)*

Completes the hiring process when new vacancies are created (Uniquely compiled for each new position) (Not to be signed up for at start of year).  Short, intensive committee meeting for 2-3 weeks, 10-15 hours. Chair or designate mandatory.

Bargaining*

Board Grievance

Labour Management

Conducts meetings with the employees to discuss any operational matters and/or issues and suggestions to improve the Employer – Employee relationship.
